Depeche Mode album for May and single for April
According to the german webpage Visions, Depeche Mode are to release their
new album in May 2001. Still according to the newsbit, the album is now
being mixed and should hold the tracks "Dream On" (editor's note: we're
rather hesitant to accept this title), "Breathe", "Sweetest Condition" and
"When The Body Speaks". A titel for the album is not yet available.
Produced by LFO's Mark Bell, the album should be preceded by the single
"Dream On" that should hit the street in April. In other news, Alternative
Press reveals in its January 2001 issue that one of the tracks is also
called "Free love", "one of the best tunes Martin has written as far as
pop-ability since 'Enjoy the Silence'" the magazine quotes David Gahan.
Gahan furthermore assures that the lyrical themes involve the "usual
obsessions: love, compulsion, lust, addiction... everything that's wrapped
up in love, all the pain, all the joy."

Lots of Martin Lee Gore news
The official Depeche Mode page has published an interview with Martin Lee
Gore. Side-Line picked out the most interesting bits. The band is
currently working with the rather unknown Steve Fitzmorris to mix the
album. Martin admits in the same interview that he did struggle last year
when he first started writing. "I was supposed to start writing in January
or February, and when it got to October and I still hadn't done anything,
I was getting into a kind of panicky state." That's when Gareth Jones and
Paul Freegard got involved. Martin is to sing two songs on the new album.
"There's only one vocal left to do, and it's down to Dave to sing it. Dave
also has another vocal to do for a track for a b side." A new guest player
has been introduced as well, namely the influential jazz percussionist
Airto Moreira, who joined the band in their Santa Barbara studio.
According to Martin, they'll only be playing five or six songs maximum
from the new album when on tour and they plan to use the same musicians
they used last time. The size of the tour is probably going to be around five months.
"We survived four months last time, so this time we're thinking possibly
we can manage another month. But, I wouldn't want to do much more than
that, because it's starting to get into dangerous waters again." For the
full transcript, go directly to the band's official page.
